Over 950 Graduates at Buganda Royal Institute

Grdauates of Buganda Royal InstituteKatikkiro Eng J.B. Walusimbi has revealed that the Kingdom has already embarked on the exercise of setting up vocational institutions in the efforts promote technical education around Buganda.

This was during the 6th graduation ceremony at Buganda Royal Institute of Business and technical education at the main campus in Kakeeka Mengo where over 953 graduates have been awarded with Diplomas and Certificates in various disciplines this Friday.

Katikkiro explained that the Kingdom is at the moment more concerned with the promotion of technical education that provides technical skills to students in the struggle to curb down on the rate of unemployed youths around Buganda.

He observed that graduates with technical skills have the ability to apply the acquired skills to establish their own businesses instead of searching for jobs that are not readily available.

The vice President, Edward Kiwanuka Ssekaandi who presided over the graduation ceremony revealed that government is set to give 25 billion shillings to youths with technical skills to help them create their own businesses.

Ssekandi explained that government is struggling to fight unemployment among the youths who have acquired education in various disciplines with much more emphasis on those living in rural areas.

The minister of state for higher education in the central government John Chrisetom Muyingo called on the central government to facilitate private institutions and to come up with more vocational institutions around the country.

The minister of education in Buganda Kingdom, Dr. Fred Masagazi Masaazi commended Dr. John Chrisetom Muyingo for having come up with the idea of initiating Buganda Royal Institute while he was still minister in Buganda Government.

The principle Buganda Royal Institute, Anthony Wamala appealed for more land from the Kingdom’s government to help them construct new lecture rooms for the increasing population at the institute.

Of the 953 graduates, 433 were female while 520 were male. CBS radio has also been awarded for its partnership with the institute in training   journalism students on internship programme.
