THE 2-day long Buganda Book Fair-2017 has been closed today at Bulange with a call of promoting our cultural values and norms.
As much as 100 publishers, book sellers and government institutions put up their stalls in the book fair to exhibit what they have. The Buganda Government organized this Book fair in collaboration with different partners such as; cbs fm, bbs Television, National Library of Uganda and Booksellers Association.
The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga inaugurated the book fair on 20th July, and visited different stalls. He appreciated the holding of Book fair every year and said that such events play an important role in promoting the habit of books-reading which help in sharpening someone’s minds as well as improving on his thinking capacity.
While closing the Book Fair, state minister for education Rosemary SSeninde commended the presence of youth, especially the students, at the venue of the book fair, and said that books help to broaden the intellectual ken of budding minds by giving them new ideas and vision. In fact books promote healthy social behavior in the society by sensitizing the readers about aspects of life, she added.
Buganda government Minister for research, Sylvia Mazzi said that they organized the book fair purposely to remind people about the need to carry out the reading habit as the norm is dying away.
The Book Fair was organized under the theme; Reading and writing is the source of wisdom.
