BUGANDA TO INITIATE INTER-CULTURAL FOOTBALL COMPETITION |

The Kitonsa family of Sweden has donated a trophy worth 2,382,000 to Buganda Kingdom in an effort to promote sports within the Kingdom and the country at large.
The trophy which was delivered to Katikkiro Eng Walusimbi by Kitonsa Freddie is expected to create a stiff football competition among the different cultural institutions within Uganda.
While presenting the trophy, Kitonsa explained that his family saw it appropriate for Buganda Kingdom to employ sports in its quest for unite among the various cultural institutions in the country.
He added that if properly handled, sports can unite various communities across the world. He cited an example of the world cup which brings people of different countries together for a common goal.
Kitonsa promised to solicit for funds to run the tournament from other people living abroad.
On receipt of the trophy, Katikkiro Eng J.B. Walusimbi thanked the Kitonsa family for having thought about the initiative.
He promised to meet with his counterpart prime ministers from other cultural institutions to see how the competition will be run.
Katikkiro noted that since Buganda is advocating for federalism for Uganda, such activities are a very good springboard for this mission.
He further praised the initiative which he said will help to identify and develop talent among the various cultural institutions within Uganda and at the same time generate friendship among these institutions.
Eng Walusimbi also promised to work with his counterparts in other cultural institutions to solicit for funds too to make the competition a success.
Kitonsa Freddie is the Secretary General to Kabaka Foundation Sweden branch and has been very supportive of all the Kingdom’s programmes.
The function was attended by the 1st deputy Katikkiro Amb Emmanuel Ssendawula and the director general in the ministry of Education Buganda Kingdom Nakimuli Leticia among others.
