Katikkiro Eng J.B. Walusimbi has warned the youths against money politics which he said leads to bad leadership which cannot resolve their problems effectively.
Katikkiro who was opening the Uganda youth platform for peace at Pope Paul Memorial centre noted with concern that many politicians influence the youth’s decisions with money which leads them into abandoning important causes which would genuinely address their plight.
Walusimbi instead advised them to exploit their youthful years into effective economic and social development because it is the only time when their faculties are very active physically and mentally.
Katikiro noted with concern that most youths do not appreciate this potential because they are more interested in short term schemes for monetary or material gains.
He explained that the youth need to realize the challenges ahead of them and the opportunities they have which can only be done through organizing such platforms where the challenges can be identified.
Katikkiro Walusimbi called upon government to impart knowledge that stimulates the work ethics of the young people and make them realize that formal education is necessary but it is not the automatic road to success.
He said that “there is need to help them undertake challenges that invoke their mind and determination to carryout total dedication as a key to a good future”.
He advised that government should centre the school curriculum towards developing the minds the youths to their full potential and be able to explore all avenues through productive thoughts.
Katikkiro called for an environment that will attract more local and foreign investors in order to avert most violent conducts by the youth which results from their lack of employment or gainful occupation.
He however expressed his disappointment over some youth who engage in criminal conducts such as theft, gambling, drug abuse and unleash violence towards themselves and the community. He said that this has ruined them yet they would have been great investments for this country.
He advised the youth to learn more from those with a little more experience due to seniority and age in order to become more productive.
In his message to the youth, the national chairperson of Nkobazambogo, Hakim Kizza observed that hypocrisy is the biggest undoing for Uganda because many people know its problems but simply ignore or fear to talk about them.
He said that most leaders do not have a heart of serving the community but only themselves and have chosen to simply look on as injustices transpires.
He therefore advised the youth to make the population vigilant about how they should receive justice and avoid a few people from becoming the decision makers for this country.
Kizza called for an enlightened and responsible citizenry that know their rights and ready to search for justice in order to fight hypocrisy. |
