NNAABAGEREKA GRACES GOLF AWARDS |

 The Nnaabagereka of Buganda, Sylvia Nagginda has commended the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) for its efforts in promoting the development of women in Uganda.
Nnaabagereka who was chief guest at the Golf Tournament Prize giving ceremony on women’s day at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala noted that FAWE has made tremendous contributions towards the development of women in Uganda especially through raising funds to help the needy girls and women.
She further noted that their contribution towards the buying of a mammogram machine at Mulago Hospital to detect early breast cancer has indeed been very crucial.
In a special way, Nnaabagereka thanked the women golfers in Uganda whom she praised for the funds they raise to help women in various ways.
She expressed her gratitude over the big number of women who are participating in playing golf which she said has for long been dominated by men.
She however called for more support towards women and children who still lack access to proper health, education facilities, cannot afford to clothe, educate and feed their families.
She commended the government of Uganda for promoting gender equality, equity and women empowerment. She cited examples where women are represented at all levels of governance from village councils to national parliament.
Nagginda testified that as the Nnaabagereka of Buganda, she has supported programmes and projects that target the youth, women and children, in education, health and economic empowerment through the Nnabagereka Development Foundation.
She described women as strong pillars of development in the country whose role in this process cannot be underestimated.
Agatha Doil received the prize as this year’s best lady golfer.
Nnaabagereka commended Agatha for her inspirations towards playing golf even after she got an accident which left her with only one leg.
She also thanked all those people who have worked tirelessly to sponsor the golf tournament and helping Agatha to prosper. |
