Page 1 of 12 LAND USE AND TENURE THE COOKING POT IN WHICH THE BUGANDA CULTURE WAS PREPARECULTURE, A SCIENCE AND ART VESSEL IN THE HANDS OF A CREATOR. 1. Cultural wisdom is the survival set of know, which God gave to all human beings of all races to enable them to survive in the locality where he put them. 2. Human beings are given cultural wisdom to enable them to solve existential challenges. Beasts have instincts, which help them to know what to eat, but the instincts cannot enable them to change their environment for better.
3. Cultural wisdom is the mother of scientific wisdom, artistic wisdom, behavioral wisdom, religious wisdom and any other source of answers to existential questions, which human beings ask in order to cope with their environment.
4. Scientific wisdom was not created by Europeans or by extra wise people.
5. Scientific wisdom is given to all human beings by God the creator.
6. What we sometimes call science are mere intelligent explanations of the scientific objects given after following the laid down rules of investigations.
7. Scientists do not create the objects they analyse or classify. We can ALL do science. The brain we use to explain how Panadol heals headache is the same brain which we use to explain the miraculous healing or being cured by a traditional healer’s portion which can make you, tall or short, fat or thin on demand. The mistake we make is to think that it’s only a scientist who can explain the composition of Panadol.
8. Cultural wisdom pervades all human knowledge and it is not only involved in singing, dancing and invoking powers of darkness as colonialists and traditionalists sometimes make people believe.
9. Knowledge which is the product of cultural wisdom is not a monopoly of any race or tribe every one of us sees the world through his or her cultural glasses. However, some glasses are better than others.
10. God wanted every human group, which he created to survive in the place where he put it. Those he put in Greenland, he gave them the wisdom of how to keep warm under ice. Those he put on lakeshores and islands like the Baganda, he gave them wisdom of how to travel on water.
11. The knowledge involved in constructing boats and oars is cultural but the shape of a boat made by a Muganda does not differ from that of a Chinese because both scientists had to respond to the same laws controlling water navigation.
12. Therefore, cultural wisdom is the survival kit which God gave to his creation so that it is able to survive in the changing environment.
